Four Randburg swimmers made the country proud on the final day of the swimming events at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

Unfortunately, no medals were won by the Randburg swimmers, but in a few instances each teammate put up a strong fight, showing that the team was a force to be reckoned with.

Randburg swimmer Jarryd Baxter looked strong going into the men’s 200m individual medley, but failed to qualify for the final, finishing third in his heat in a time of 00:02:02.23.

Horskool Linden’s Mariella Venter competed in the women’s 50m, 100m, and 200m backstroke events.

Venter did a fantastic job qualifying for the 50m backstroke semi-final with a time of 00:00:29.88, but finished in last position in the semi in a time of 00:00:29.58.

In the 100m event, Venter was eliminated in the third heat, finishing sixth in a time of 00:01:03.39, and in the 200m event, she was eliminated in heat two, finishing fourth in a time of 00:02:14.82.

Sundowner’s Brent Szurdoki competed in the men’s 400m freestyle and was eliminated in heat two of the event, finishing fifth in a time of 00:03:56.40.

Windsor Glen’s Kate Beavon swam in the women’s 400m and 800m freestyle event.

In the 400m, Beavon swam in a time of 00:04:17.59, finishing sixth in heat three.

In the 800m, she made it to the finals after swimming in a qualifying time of 00:08:49.16 in her heat. In the final, she finished in eighth place in a time of 00:08:49.16.

Team South Africa’s current medal tally stands at 25 medals.

The event will conclude on 15 April.
